on the road again…

apologies to mr. willie nelson…

that’s right kiddos…your friendly neighborhood happyfunboy goes on yet another short trip soon.

luckily, no flying this time…which means no airport security checkpoints. just a short drive over to atlanta.

on monday, i’ll be attending the sbs tour stop, sponsored by the atlants sbs users’ group. the next day i’ve got a seat at the crm 3.0 readiness event at the hilton downtown.

so, if any visitors here at the funcave are planning to attend either of those events, look me up! maybe we can grab a bite to eat or a beer afterwards.

yaso to a sick friend

of course, i’m horribly late with this, as he’s already well again…

but q was recently hospitalized for a bit. and all of us here at the funcave are very glad he’s made a quick recovery.

forget a sympathy card…buy a copy of his book instead.

deja vu…sucks

so…your friendly neighborhood happyfunboy has been mighty interested in windows mobile lately. interested enough to sign up for not one, but two separate webcasts about windows mobile last month.

you can imagine the heartbreak that ensued when both ‘casts were rescheduled.

well now…it just so happens that today and yesterday were the reschedule dates. and i have to say…i was glad i sat in.

at least for one of them, that is.

despite having two different titles, both sessions were almost mirror images of each other. so…altho the content was very good…the second was nearly a complete waste of time for me.

and that kinda pisses me off. because there is little to no way to know if there will be anything different, i tend to use the title of a webcast to determine if it contains something new or not.

and i do that…because the title is really all i have to go on.

evidently, this is not the only place this issue of recycled, warmed-over content crops up.

yours truly has been pretty excited about the sbs team tour, after managing to snag a seat for the stop in alpharetta, georgia next monday.

but now…well, let’s just say the feedback about the sbs team stops that have happened so far has been a bit…underwhelming, to say the least.

heavy on sales pitch and marketing doublespeak…very light on the deep-diving stuff most important to folks already “tuned in” to the smb space.

that’s disheartening. cuz these chances to speak directly and frankly don’t come around very often for the folks on either side of these events.

see…it’s that feedback thing i mentioned a little bit ago.

when you have folks who are deeply and emotionally invested in your product, and they are making some pretty significant treks to connect even more deeply with your product and give their feedback about it…but you’re not willing to take let them make those connections and give that feedback, you have just squandered an perfect opportunity to get…uber-cheaply, i might add…what most business strategists would sell their left arms for.

so…if anyone at the mothership is visiting…

i would bet my left arm that 95% or better of every audience in attendance at the sbs team tour stops has already drank the kool-aid. they are already sold on sbs, and how much it absolutely rocks.

so drop the sales pitch. quit recycling stuff from every wednesday on the web ‘cast for the last 12 months.

for pete’s sake…

kick it up a notch!

now is no time to be afraid of what the community has to say about the future (or the present) of sbs. we’re not interested in bashing anything or anyone. we’re interested in sbs because we’re basing our businesses, our lives and our livelihoods, on it.

if all this is still not clear enough, this is as clearly and directly as i can say it…

we’re onboard already!

so quit talking to us as tho we aren’t…sheesh!

ah…what bitter irony…

after the day he’s had…that your friendly neighborhood happyfunboy would still be up and be the first to see that…

exchange server 2003 service pack 2 has been released.

at long last…admins everywhere running exchange server 2003 standard can now raise the maximum size limit of their databases to as high as 75 gigabytes.

just think of how many side-splittingly funny video clips of some guy getting hit in the hoo-ha with a wiffle ball bat, or 20 mb pictures of someone’s doggie, that people will be able to send to each other and keep in their inboxes forever now!

steve jobs…you cheap-ass

as regular visitors to the funcave already know…beauty will be delivered tomorrow.

in preparation for her triumphant arrival at the funcave, yours truly ventured out today via the hidden entrance and picked up an ipod nano dock…which, by the by, isn’t even available on the apple store anymore.

my thought was that the dock would be used here in the funcave, while the sync cable that will come with the nano would be used while travelling, such as to atlanta for an overnight stay next week.

silly happyfunboy! how dare you assume that…just because every other dock of any kind you have ever purchased included a cable…the nano dock would come with a cable as well.

but oh…no no no. for 30 smackers you get a piece of white plastic that resembles nothing so much as a chiclet on steroids, and that’s it. an additional sync cable to go with it is an extra 20 buckaroos. which is total frackin’ b.s.!

so then i looked at the ipod universal dock. which, for a scant 40 dollalas, works with all current ipod models, and includes throat adapters for every model.

however…still no fracking cable!

so let’s do the math…

universal dock…$40
sync cable…$20
av cable…$20
power adapter…$30
remote control…$30

a new gulfstream jet as your executive compensation?…priceless

so your friendly neighborhood happyfunboy is officially looking for a good dock option for an ipod nano. anybody have a suggestion?

doesn’t matter. i can wait. already waiting on a decent skin for the nano before i take it to the gym with me.
