forget the coupons for joey lovin’…
the mothership is tryin’ to make us all look bad by releasing not 1, not 2, but 7 patches this coming tuesday, which just happens to also be saint valentine’s day.
which means those it folks lucky enough to have landed themselves a significant other will, rather than spending some quality bow chicka bow wow time, instead get the pleasure of researching, testing, and rolling out fixes for ms’ programming holes.

skype just released the long-awaited version 2.0 of their product.
now…your friendly neighborhood happyfunboy has heard a lot of folks in the sbs community mention they won’t run skype, all of them giving a similar refrain:
i’ve heard bad things about it…
it can’t be trusted…
it has problems…
to me…that sounds an awful lot like the ignorant, biased slamming of sbs that those very same sbs folks go absolutely bonkers over.
i mean, c’mon folks…use some common sense.
- disable skype from loading at startup.
- close it when you are finished.
- keep it patched.
treat it just like we treat all the other tools that those of us in sbs-land swear by, including sbs (yes, sbs is a tool).
all i’m saying is…don’t be a hypocrite.
give skype a fair shake, just like the one you are always complaining that sbs (and by extension, sbs-ers) deserves.
say it with me…

luckily for your friendly neighborhood happyfunboy, the latest meeting of our sbs/smb user group went off without a hitch on tuesday.
the sbs community’s king of swing, jeff middleton, came to birmingham and gave us the lowdown on swing migration. jeff spoke not just from the perspective of using swing for migrations and system upgrades, but also ways to leverage swing for disaster recovery.
obviously, that’s a hot topic…especially for someone like jeff, who is a native of new orleans.
perhaps even more fun than the meeting was the 2+ hours some of us spent post-meeting at a local restaurant.
lots of eating, chatting, and generally just having a good time.
so if you’re an it pro working in small or medium business in alabama…come join us!
