@ bob...

Anyone and everyone is always free to go elsewhere if a registration ask is too much for them.

I can understand what an affront that is...what with all the advertising, pop-ups, and other pure money-grubbing content people have to put up with to access the Funcave.

Oh wait...there isn't any of that, is there?

But since you were so polite about it, this post is over 2 years old, and has been superceded many times with more current information.

BTW: Loved you in those wacky "On The Road" movies. Obviously, you're still teh pissed that Der Bingle always got the girl(s).

@ hash:

Thanks for stopping by.

Truth be told, ActiveSync passthrough was the very first thought I had for simulating connectvity for Direct Push using DEmu. It worked, but looked too hokey for the single machine demo setup to be convincing to a live audience.

As stated at the beginning of the WM5 DEmu series, the goal was to show Direct Push under emulation using as close to a full-on wireless connection as possible, so cradlng (even emulated) was out as an option.

However, this series does discuss using ActiveSync passthrough for Internet connectivity, specifically as a way to enable connectivity for DEmu running inside a virtual machine.

You can see the post here: http://www.chrisrue.com/funcave/2007/03/wm5-device-emulator-network-connectivity-inside-a-virtual-environment.html

There's an index of the entire series available here: http://www.chrisrue.com/funcave/2006/06/wm5-device-emulator-index.html

@gene

that's exactly the behavior i saw trying to get demu network connectivity running under vpc. if that's not the the type of config you are trying to run, you should check the virtual machine network driver & your nic card driver. reinstalling vmnd or updating your nic driver may help.

I've got to your page while trying to have IE connected not the Net from the emulator. Well, after a lot of digging about Virtual Network Emulator (with no success enabling) I found out THERE'S NO NEED OF IT ! Just use the ActiveSync, Amit Chopra describes the procedure here: http://blogs.msdn.com/vsdteam/archive/2005/10/07/478295.aspx

is there any trick/format to setting the mac address? the emulator accepts this if the dashes are removed: 00-0D-60-77-7B-5A, but after that there's still the wrong card in the network config.

[...] you might remember that last episode your friendly neighborhood happyfunboy mentioned the importance of explicitly binding virtual network interfaces to specific physical network interfaces to assure that network traffic flows via the correct pathways. this very funlab setup proves the fundamental importance of explicit bindings.
