wpc 2006: death by keynote

honestly…

i just don’t understand the mothership sometimes.

the 2006 worldwide partner conference can pretty much be summed up with one word…

keynotes.

sweet mother in heaven…the keynotes!

no joke…

all 3 days of this conference were kicked off with roughly 4 hours of keynotes, including repeats of certain keynotes.

basically this means that they simply scheduled more of the breakout sessions, which actually did offer a good bit of value, at the same times. which means more content you don’t get to see, or are stressed about missing, because something else you are actually interested in seeing conflicts with it.

the only reason i can think of for all the long-ass keynotes is that mothership needs to get better utilization of the gi-normously huge hall they had set up for ballmer’s opening keynote.

and then there was the specious quality of those same keynotes.

despite the theme of wpc this year being velocity…

the keynotes themselves dragged on interminably.

so instead of giving impressions which might more readily translate to velocity, such as…

Serie_zamm

Serie_zap

Serie_zowie

your friendly neighborhood happyfunboy felt like his head was being dipped in molasses…

over & over again.

and you have to figure that with each attendee having all of their energy sucked out of them first thing in the morning…

it’s no wonder that this conference came across as having an overall lack of pizzazz.

or maybe it’s just me.
