funcave request live!
well, not really live…
but this post features questions asked by a recent visitor to the funcave in response to a post from a while back concerning the use of activesync remote display with windows mobile 5, which i guess is as close to trl as we’re prolly gonna get around here.
question: just wondering where i would find my pocket pc’s processor to pick the proper file?
answer: fastest way i know is pretty straightforward, actually.
navigate to…
start->settings->system (tab)->about

you should see the processor type displayed in the middle of the screen.

problem is…
this info can prove the adage be careful what you wish for.
obviously, the device emulator screen capture above is obviously an arm emulation.
however, the results returned by a true hardware device might be a bit more difficult to assess.
for example, my pre-production demo cingular 8125 device shows the processor as an omap850.
a quick skate around goggle reveals that texas instruments makes the omap family, which is an arm based platform.
a handy tip…
look for yours truly to post a table of devices & which respective activesync remote display file should be used for each of them as a resource here at the funcave soon.
question: once I pick [the file], how do I find the windows directory on my mobile device?
answer: the Windows directory resides at the root of the mobile device.
to locate it…
open file explorer.

the default location is My Documents.

click the drop-down menu on the left, then tap My Device, which is actually the root of the mobile device & therefore located above My Documents.

you should find the Windows directory at the My Device root…

as well as:
- Application Data
- Documents & Settings
- My Documents (obviously)
- Program Files
- Temp
and a link to…
- Storage Card
but only if a storage card is present, that is.
one parting tip…
the My Documents folder on the mobile device is the location synchronized via activesync’s file synchronization, when enabled.
