does activesync remote display work with vga devices?
by itself? no way.
but it will work, once you give it what basically amounts to a swift kick in the sitter, that is.
first, a round of applause for venky!
this intrepid visitor to the funcave wondered why activesync remote display aka ard would not work on his brand-spankin’ new t-mobile dash. he had followed all the steps in the previous write-up about ard posted here by yours truly…
but got nothing.
the good news is …it’s prolly not the processor that’s the problem
the bad news is…it’s prolly the display.
briefly put, ard was released eons ago…
long before windows mobile 5.0 was even a twinkle in anyone’s pocket…
let alone before anyone had the bright idea of creating a vga-capable windows mobile device.
so if you want ard to work on a vga windows mobile device like the t-mobile dash, ya gotta force it into vga mode.
without further ado…
happyfunboy’s super awesome guide to kicking activesync remote display’s hindparts into vga mode
fair warning: this method shouldn’t bother the normally faint of heart. but if you are severely faint of heart, pony up 35 bills for soti’s fantastically fantastic pocket controller pro, which supports vga mode natively. you won’t regret it.
first, follow the steps of the previous write-up on making ard work with windows mobile 5.0, except for trying to launch activesync remote display at the end.
download both of the following files (courtesy of the mad programmer & the excellent write-up about using forcehires with activesync remote display by menneisyys, from whence this post was born):
extract both archives
copy the following files to your device’s windows directory:
- forcehires.cpl from the forcehires archive
- gsgetfile.dll from the armrel (or whatever proc type is in your device) subdir of the gsgetfile-i archive
accept the security warning on your device for forcehires.cpl, then launch the brand-spankin’-new forcehires control panel under settings->system.
check the hi-resolutionized box, then click add.
accept the security warning for gsgetfile.dll, then navigate to add \windows\cerdisp2.exe to the list of applications.
click ok, then try ard.
seeing as how none of the funcave’s sugar daddys saw fit to lay a vga mobile device on us this christmas…
one of you kind souls blessed with such a device will have to let us know how it goes.
stay frosty, kiddos!
