home what?

so everybody & their brother seems quite hot & bothered today about the amazing news that mothership announced a home server today.

color me skeptical.

first, the concept pic posted here & there & everywhere kinda looks like one of those usb coffee warmers…on steroids.

second, the idea of pairing the words home & server generally rubs me the wrong way.

maybe it’s because of the gazillion times yours truly has had to explain to clients & prospects why the spiffy machines that they bought a year before talking to me won’t fully support a real server…

since those machines came with windows xp home.

absolutely no doubt in this happyfunboy’s mind that home server will start showing up in businesses.

and why not?

it says server, right there on the box, right?

so i’m thinking, rather than spend any of my time trying to get on the beta…

i should prolly just go ahead & start prepping my why this server isn’t really a server for your business speech.

To be honest I can’t quite get excited about what looks like it will be some type of NAS device (not really sure as details are pretty thin on the ground!) in some funny housing and neon lighting! Why don’t I go out and buy Windows Storage Server? Now, Vista I can and do get excited about and using Windows Media Center but why do we need this??? Why don’t I just use Windows Vista Home Premium and buy one of the many NAS devices out there? [...]
