windows mobile 6 sdk drops

the windows mobile team says…

come get your code on!

the software development kit for windows mobile 6 was released today. of particular interest for the robot horde over at the funlab is the inclusion of windows mobile 6 emulator images in the sdk.

the sdk is split into 2 files, which follow the new naming convention for wm6 versions. an image for wm6 classic is included with the wm6 professional sdk file. here’s how the new naming convention breaks down in the wm6 sdk:

  • Windows Mobile for Smartphone = Windows Mobile Standard (download the Windows Mobile 6 Standard SDK)
  • Windows Mobile for Pocket PC = Windows Mobile Classic (download the Windows Mobile 6 Professional SDK)
  • Windows Mobile for Pocket PC Phone Edition = Windows Mobile Professional (download the Windows Mobile 6 Professional SDK)

the sdk files include the following emulator images:

  • Windows Mobile 6 Standard SDK
    • Windows Mobile 6 Standard (172×220 pixels - 96 dpi)
    • Windows Mobile 6 Standard Landscape QVGA (240×320 pixels - 131 dpi)
    • Windows Mobile 6 Standard QVGA (320×240 pixels - 131 dpi)
  • Windows Mobile 6 Professional SDK
    • Windows Mobile 6 Classic (240×320 pixels - 96 dpi)
    • Windows Mobile 6 Professional (240×320 pixels - 96 dpi)
    • Windows Mobile 6 Professional Square (240×240 pixels - 96 dpi)
    • Windows Mobile 6 Professional Square QVGA (320×320 pixels - 128 dpi)
    • Windows Mobile 6 Professional Square VGA (480×480 pixels - 192 dpi)
    • Windows Mobile 6 Professional VGA (480×640 pixels - 192 dpi)

remember that you need a real version of visual studio 2005 to use this sdk. vs 2005 express won’t cut it. here’s the full list of requirements for the supported platforms:

ironically, if you k0de m0bile using a 3g datacard, there’s a known issue. the current workarounds? either use the sdk on a different machine altogether, or remove the 3g datacard drivers. watch for a real fix soon.

  1. [...] i can absolutely confirm that the instrux at kirupa.com are dead wrong. as was posted here at the funcave as soon as the windows mobile 6 sdks were released, using the sdks to run windows mobile 6 unequivocally requires visual studio 2005 standard or higher …. [...]
