wm5 device emulator: network connectivity inside a virtual environment
I had the distinct pleasure of discovering that a link to the Device Emulator 1.0 with Windows Mobile 5 series was posted to mediawiki on a page titled mobile browser testing.
As I said from the outset, I hoped my DEmu 1.0 series would help with spur better mobile web design. I’ve ranted concerning the dearth of functional website designs for mobile devices enough. In fact, my original in-person contribution to the inaugural barcamp: birmingham was supposed to be a session on mobile device emulation for the purpose of helping spur better mobile web design. and yes…i’m still burned up that i missed bc:b 1.0!
Unfortunately though, the reality of modern development of any kind is such that the bulk of it occurs in virtual environments.

Because of this, the Direct Push demo used an installation of DEmu 1.0 running directly on a host machine. This decision was made to assure the cleanliness & validity of the Direct Push demo for the LiveMeeting sessions presented for T2 & Orlando IT Pro.
As the folks at mediawiki confirmed, the current connectivity instructions don’t work when DEmu 1.0 is installed inside a virtual environment. Parallels desktop on MacOS, to be exact.
However, it is possible to get network connectivity to DEmu 1.0 while it is running inside a virtual machine. Here are the basic ingredients you’ll need to have installed & configured…

Same here, looking to test a wm5 app under the emulator under Parallels. Looking forward to seeing how you did it!
