Office Accounting SP1 was more like a total overhaul…

Wow.

As monstrous as Microsoft Office Accounting Service Pack 1 is on its own, it was just the tip of the iceberg last night.

yeah...sad. whatever.

Luckily, we fared far better than Jack & Rose there. The SS Funcave is still afloat & no worse for wear.

By the time the robot horde finished, we’d completed the following:

  • Completed the updates on the Funcave server
  • Brought the Funcave deployment of WSUS up-to-date
  • Deployed all outstanding updates to all Funcave machines

Here’s why this is such a big deal for MOA users…

MOA SP1 is tagged as HIGH-PRIORITY

Now, it’s not an auto-installer, as far as I could tell. But this is tagged high-priority because it fixes some bugs that can cause major data loss. So this is a detailed update, even for standalone implementations.

The download page for MOA SP1, however, doesn’t really imply the seriousness of implementing this update:

To install this download:

Note: Administrators should refer to the Administrator resources section.

  1. Download the file by clicking the Download button (above) and saving the file to your hard disk.
  2. It is recommended that you quit any programs you are running prior to installation.
  3. Double-click the OfficeAccounting2007SP1-KB932726-FullFile-ENU.exe program file on your hard disk to start the Setup program.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

Administrator resources:
If you administrate a client server installation you have to install this service pack on the server and on all the clients.
Administrators working in managed environments can find complete resources for deploying Office updates in an organization on the Microsoft Office Desktop Applications TechCenter Web site. On the home page of that site, look under Update Strategies for the product version you are updating.

Instructions for use:

After you install this download, use your programs as you typically would.

To remove this download:

There is no uninstall feature for this download. You can uninstall Office Accounting 2007 and then re-install Office Accounting from the original source, i.e. CD or downloaded file.

That last item should give you a hint that this is a measure twice, load once kind of update.

But to me…those instrux make it sound like something you could easily knock out on your lunch hour, right?

For a more detailed look at the process, including some key things to decide & some gotchas to watch for during the installation of Office Accounting Service Pack 1, head over & check out the Funboard discussion about MOA SP1.

We can confirm that MOA SP1 finally fixes the BCM data loss issue. So, we’ve got that going for us…
