Kicking Myself for Missing MEDC

Kick me. Kick me hard. Harder dammit!

Seriously. The category tags on this post are for yours truly.

For the uninitiated, MEDC stands for Mobile & Embedded DevCon.

MIX gets a lot of attention, and rightfully so.

But the next big shift is gonna happen in in mobility. Besides, there was a huge-ola discount to slap MIX attendance onto your MEDC registration, and vice-versa. At least before MIX sold out, that is.

And that’s why I’m peeved I can’t break free to get to Vegas in the next couple of days.

So forgive me if I’m kinda testy.

Longhorn Stampede Begins

O give me a home...when the betas can roam...

Beta 3 of Windows Server “Longhorn” was just released today.

Might as well get in line, cuz the download servers are gonna be swamped.

While you wait, you can decide what you want to order off the menu…

  • Windows Server Code Name “Longhorn” Beta 3 Standard Edition
  • Windows Server Code Name “Longhorn” Beta 3 Standard 32–bit Edition
  • Windows Server Code Name “Longhorn” Beta 3 Enterprise Edition
  • Windows Server Code Name “Longhorn” Beta 3 Enterprise 32–bit Edition
  • Windows Server Code Name “Longhorn” Beta 3 Datacenter Edition
  • Windows Server Code Name “Longhorn” Beta 3 Datacenter 32–bit Edition
  • Windows Web Server Code Name “Longhorn” Beta 3
  • Windows Web Server Code Name “Longhorn” Beta 3 32–bit
  • Windows Web Server Code Name “Longhorn” Beta 3 for Itanium-based Systems

And no…I wouldn’t recommend loading this on top of SBS.

Happy Beta-ing!

We’re moving the How-To items

OK OK. We're not moving people. But this is a cooler-looking graphic than some sweaty dude in a dirty undershirt, right?

All of the large, full write-up content from the Funcave AKA FC is slowly making its way over to the Funboard AKA FB. That’s nothing new. There will still be links here at FC that can get you to the stuff over at its new home.

Now’s the perfect time to go ahead & register for FB. That way you won’t get interrupted, waiting for approval, when the robot horde has come up with a fix that will help you out.

Once you’re over at FB…if you want to quickly find the more detailed stuff, you can run a Search for Topics with FUNLAB in them.

You can even save that search if you want, since FB’s running the cool-as-ice Saved Searches extension, coded by none other than the father of Vanilla himself, Mark O’Sullivan.

That will save the search on the left, in the Control Panel. So from then on, you can just click that link & keep rolling.

BTW: The migrations aren’t happening in order, so the installments for each Funlab will sort out of order in the search. But they’re numbered so you can read them sequentially, which can be kind of important for the more detailed series.

Trouble Installing Business Contacts for Pocket PC

Ran into a couple of snags yesterday while trying to install the final release of BCM Mobile. The official instrux on the MS download page for Vista don’t work.

In particular, you may have difficulty uninstalling the beta version of Business Contacts for Pocket PC from the PC itself.

I <3 my Bear!

Luckily for me, the robot horde came to the rescue.

Their handiwork, in the form of a workaround, is over at the Funboard. So come check it out already!

Business Contacts for Pocket PC = Just Outta Beta

Yet another tool in constant use here at the Funplex finally goes to full release.

Anyone else find it funny that the system requirements don’t show Vista as supported, even tho the download page includes removal instructions specific to Vista? That’s funny as in weird, not as in ha-ha. And not weird in a good way, either.

Late as it was in the dev cycle, I’m sure that absolutely 0 of the BCM Mobile wishlist that’s brewing over at the Funboard made it into this release.

If you’ve got Office Accounting integrated with Business Contact Manager, you might want to get MOA’s Service Pack 1 loaded first. Trust me tho…that service pack’s no walk in the park.
