I Got Your Exchange Support Right Here!
Wow…so impressive.
The highly-touted Exchange connectivity the iPhone has?
Freaking IMAP.
And it’s not just that it’s IMAP support…which blows, no matter if it’s the MS/Exchange implementation of it or not.
What’s really funny is that there is a separate tab labelled Exchange in the mail setup interface so you know it really supports Exchange. And they can show it in demos with an Exchange tab. Even though there’s already a tab labelled IMAP. And those 2 tabs are identical. Except for the note at the top of the Exchange screen. And the labels. Which has IMAP on one…and Exchange on the other. Damn…if this isn’t a keynote in the making, I don’t know what is!
You Had Me At EHLO lays out the differences betwen IMAP and EAS when it comes to mobile device connectivity.
Not surprisingly, the hordes of Apple zombie mobs are already whining about it.
For any and all Shaun of the Dumbass Apple fan-boys, -girls, -transgendereds, or -what-have-you who might shuffle or lurch in to complain, I’ll say this…
Using IMAP to access Exchange is roughly akin to using your big toe, and only your big toe, to work in Final Cut Pro.
Other words…if you’ve never used a real mobile device, kindly SYP.
FYI: That’s the honest-to-gosh Tech Hand of yours truly in the pics both here and in the preceding post. Big thanks again to Porfirio for taking the photos.
