Live Mobile Search v2 Hatches

The crazy kids on the Mobile Search team must be shooting themselves full of steroids. The first release of Mobile Search was great in its own right. But they just birthed a new version of Mobile Search and it kicks some serious ass!
Besides a version for WM 5 and 6, you can snag a version for WM 2003.
They also offer a J2ME version and a beta release for certain Blackberry models (both available here).
And if that still doesn’t cover your device, they have a browser-based version that will work with almost anything.
Yes, even on an iPhone.
And I’ll tell you.
Windows Live Mobile Search is a sleeper hit. Seriously.
When I needed some quick directions after getting discombobulated in an unfamiliar area of Birmingham, I was able to download Mobile Search to my new Treo 750 OTA, install it, and get turn-by-turn directions from where I was to where I needed to be (which was a good 20 minutes away, cross-town), in under 2 minutes. And that was v1.
By contrast, Google’s mobile services? Sorely lacking, particularly from the perspective of trying to conserve typing. Which should be design goal #1 for any and all mobile apps.
The only thing Windows Live Mobile Search needs? A better fracking name! Something with the same uber-coolness factor of Silverlight.
To commemorate their long-lost line of gaming joysticks, which hearken back to the halcyon days of the Voodoo I and the advent of 3–D gaming, I suggest…
SIDEWINDER
And also because they are really sinking their fangs into Google in this area.
So jump into the beatdown…go get your Mobile Search on!
