Alabama SMB Does Club Buffalo

For those of you coming to some or all of Microsoft’s Big Day Out on September 27th in Trussville…

Buffalo Have Wings?

By 5 o’clock…

You know your brain’s already gonna be burnt crispier than a very crispy thing, what with all the sweet sweet goodness Microsoft is looking to lay on you for roughly 8 hours that day.

So you might as well join Alabama SMB afterwards, as we adjourn to the nearby Buffalo Wild Wings. Trust me, you shouldn’t get lost…

Don’t lollygag tho.

You’ll want to beat the crowd.

Ya see, Thursdays is BWW’s busiest night of the week.

At 7 in the P to the M they have a live DJ that kicks Club Buffalo into high gear. So if you want, you can stick around and keep pumping up the jam.

It would be AWESOME if we had some idea of how many folks might be coming. So don’t be shy about signing up ahead of time here: https://www.clicktoattend.com/invitation.aspx?code=121113

Last thing…

We’re poor as church mice, so everything’s Dutch. But, think of it this way…

You can order ANYTHING you want on the menu! Cuz you’re paying…for you, that is.

Hope to see you there!

Come Kiss The Mobile Sky With IPSA

Mobile 2.0. That's what it's all about. Kinda like the hokey-pokey.

That’s right folks…

The Internet Professionals Society of Alabama (IPSA) has decided to lay it all on the line and let me speak at their next meeting.

So this Thursday, September 13, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at the fantabulous McWane Science Center

I’ll be giving a talk called…

Mobile 2.0 & The Amazing Technicolor Dream You

Which will basically be me pontificating about mobility, where it’s going, and why you should care. There will be a good bit of audience interaction (I hope). We’ll slice and dice the current platforms, and also toss around a couple of things coming down the pike that you might keep in the back of your mind.

This meeting is absolutely free to attend, but you must RSVP via IPSA’s website if you actually want there to be a chair for you.

Lunch is available from McWane Center at a cost of $10, with an order deadline of noon, Tuesday, September 11. If you miss the cutoff for ordering lunch, then it’s BYOL.

Hope to see you there!

Thanks to Porfirio Solorzano for the original pic of the mobile devices above. Photoshop mods by yours truly.

Community, Heal Thyself

You take the red pill...and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.

The Challenge to GroupLeads has been generating a TON of traffic over on the Yahoo Group, and here. Maybe on the Groove site too.

All the subsequent discussion got me thinking…

How Is The Community Any Better Than Microsoft?

What I mean is…

A common thought about MS, voiced often by a certain Floridian, is that MS has some awesome people, who are good folks/friends/people we think are aces…

But that doesn’t change the fact that, as a Company, MS will squash you like a bug, under the right circumstances.

So I wonder…

Does that describe the Community too?

Like, maybe there are some awesome people, who are good folks/friends/people we think are aces…

But the reality is that as a Collective, we pretty much stink. Perhaps even doing more harm than good. Scaring off NewBloods. Poisoning vendors who might be interested in engaging with us. Running around with our noses stuck up in the air for absolutely no reason at all.

So I’ll ask these questions…

Are You Happy With The Community?

Is It Delivering What You Need?

If Not, What Do You Want?

What Are Three Things You’d Suggest To Help The Community Make That Happen For You?

Here’s the ONLY catch…

You don’t get to pick and choose which questions you answer.

You MUST answer ALL of them or none of them. Otherwise, your comment gets nuked.

Me And You And A Dog Named Blue

You just figured out a business plan. You just figured out a business plan. You just figured out a business plan...because Karl's very smart!

Karl Palachuk’s doing it again.

And by it, I mean kicking more ass than Lou Ferrigno injected with a trailer truck full of HGH.

Karl recently dropped a challenge (that’s right folks, challenge is not a dirty word to anyone who cares about accomplishing something) for you, me and Dupree to become managed service providers in a month

And, 4 sections in, what he’s laying down is quite frankly, awesome.

So awesome that, in my humble opinion, this is the kind of executive level business coaching that some folks pay for, to the tune of a minimum of $5K per lesson.

In other words…

Karl’s trying to hand you $20K, no questions asked. Don’t ya think it’s about time you gave the man just a little bit of your attention?

If that wasn’t enough, he’s breaking it all down in terms so simple that even a 5–year-old (albeit a 5–year-old with a D&B number and a credit line) could understand, and follow to be a success.

Karl’s super duper secret secret sauce?

Pretty simple, actually…

Step 1: Engage Your Brain

Step 2: Make a Plan

Step 3: Implement Your Plan

Sure…

There are a few more fun things you have to do along the way to really make it all happen.

But just like the Funcave’s all-time favorite children’s mystery show extravaganza…

Sometimes going to talk to the salt and pepper shakers in your kitchen, just to get their opinion on things you are doing…

Well, that’s all part of the glorious nature of being your own boss.

Assy McGee Doth Not Become Thee

Assy McGee is a rough, gritty, walking, talking pair of buttocks - Wikipedia.org

So you always pride yourself on being the squeaky wheel, huh?

You’re mad as hell, and you’re not going to take it any more…

Yet again.

There’s yet a new reason for you to throw off on this vendor, or that vendor. This initiative, or that idea.

I call shenanigans on that.

Let me clue you in on a little truth…

People Do Not Like Talking To Jerks

They don’t. Plain and simple.

Even if you are right…even if you’ve had divine inspiration. Even if you’re hella charismatic.

Eventually, this nagging thought is gonna creep in…

Man, that guy is a total flippin’ jackass.

And then whatever you think you’ve built up in rep, etc? All that is llike dust in the wind. Gone, because it wasn’t ever really there.

That’s a shame, in my book.

Even if you get all kinds of direct responses saying “Way to go” and “Attaboy” after you’ve been particularly, well, Assy…

How do you know it’s not just because people don’t relish being one of your targets?
