Office Mobile 6.1 Requires Windows Mobile 5 Build 14847

Folks who are paying attention might remember Build 14847 as the first one to include the famously famous MSFP AKA Messaging Security & Feature Pack in Windows Mobile 5…

And colloquially known as…

A Pocket Full of Direct Push

Long story short, Office Mobile 6.1 won’t load on any version of Windows Mobile earlier than Windows Mobile 5 Build 1487, a requirement which isn’t noted on the download page for Office Mobile 6.1 at all.

So if you get the following message…

Error message: Office Mobile 6.1 is not compatible with Windows Mobile 5.0 powered devices running builds earlier than 14847.

To check the build number of your Windows Mobile powered device, go to Settings, click System, and then click About.

Go check and see if there isn’t a newer ROM update available for your device from the OEM or mobile operator.

If there isn’t…

Well…

You are pretty much SOL for Office Mobile 6.1, I guess.

Operation UK Suppression: Mission Accomplished

You made The British Bulldog cry!

If you live in the UK and try to load the freshly baked Office Mobile 6.1 update, which will give your Windows Mobile 5 or 6 device the ability to work with Word, Excel & PowerPoint documents saved in the native Office 2007 format, you might be in for a rude surprise.

The only English language version available for download is U.S.-specific. You may receive a language mismatch error when you try to load Office Mobile 6.1, which will prevent you from completing the installation.

In that case, to load the update, you’ll need to change your device language. Altho the actual language setting is found here…

Start->Settings->Regional Settings

The process you’ll need to use is a bit more involved…

  • Change device language to English (United States)
  • Restart device
  • Install Office Mobile 6.1
  • Restart device
  • Change device language back to English (United Kingdom)
  • Restart device

Yes, it’s a PITA. But it will work.

While I’m thinking about it…

This issue might also apply to all the other non-US English speaking locales, which would include…

  • Australia
  • Belize
  • Canada
  • Caribbean, mon
  • Ireland
  • Jamaica
  • New Zealand
  • Philippines
  • South Africa
  • Trinidad
  • Zimbabwe

Shout out if you happen to see this on your device, and you happen to be from one of those areas.

I’m trying to reproduce it now, but haven’t seen it yet. I’m not using true UK hardware tho.

Mogul’s Got A Brand New ROM!

C'mon in and Mogul me!

If you were suffering through the most recent ROM release for the Sprint Mogul, and the subsequent Bluetooth issues associated with it, and the sub-subsequent instrux to downgrade to the previous ROM…

Your time for rejoicing is nigh!

HTC’s dropped a shiny new ROM for you Mogulites to try.

Initial reports are positive, which is a good thing.

Don’t forget the handy checklist for applying ROM updates to Windows Mobile devices that the Funboard’s robot horde whipped up for all of you back in May of this very year!

And yes, Treo 750 users like me and Bitzie still get to twiddle our thumbs…

Welcome To The Response Point

If you saw the previous post, you already know that the Response Point demo system arrived at the Funcave today.

Is it properly pronounced SIS-pin, or SIS-pine? I've heard it pronounced both ways.

It’s a Quanta Syspine base unit, as you can plainly see. And a grand total of 3 handsets, which rocks.

I'm a big fan of the function buttons included on this model.

Stick around, cuz there will be more to come on RP, right here at the Funcave.

To amuse you in the meantime…

According to Running Antelope, it’s a darn good thing I wasn’t home at 5p this afternoon.

Otherwise, I prolly would have hugged the UPS guy in an entirely inappropriate way, prolly something like from the very end (start at timestamp -0:13) of this NSFW video clip from the incomparable Blazing Saddles

‘scuse me, while I whip this out…
