E-Cycling Day 2008 In Pictures

Without question, the first E-Cycling Day collection event ever held here in West Alabama was a smashing success!

Sweet dreams, e-waste!

The turnout was amazing. Over 2 days, we had 825 vehicles come through to drop off equipment to be e-cycled. The picture below might look like a beautiful day, but it was freezing! That didn’t seem to keep people from showing up tho…

And I think to myself...what a wonderful world...

We filled 3 semi trailers full to the ceiling with equipment. And then filled 6 of the city’s debris trucks (3 of which you can see on the left) to the brim.

The two women seen here in the safety vests were volunteers from Westerveldt, and they worked their tails off!

We’re still waiting for the final tare weights, but our best estimates peg the collected tally somewhere in the neighborhood of 135,000 pounds of e-waste.

 Xerox anyone?

This is a clip shot during the pre-collection day we held just for Chamber members. Man, do I look like I’ve been standing out in the freezing cold for roughly 8 hours or what?

Most of the time, I was busy was visitor intake. The “Hi, thanks for coming, how did you hear about us” kind of stuff. Luckily, I got in some equipment-slinging off and on during the day. Which is quite cathartic, actually. Nothing like watching a CPU or printer fragment into pieces as it smashes against the towering pile…

Semi 1 of 3 that we filled

And here are a couple of video clips the Tuscaloosa News shot at the event, featuring one of our city council members and 2 folks from the city’s Environmental Services Department, Shane and Stacy…

But what you might find most interesting is the crucial role a pair of AT&T Tilts running Windows Mobile 6 played in our small effort to save the planet.

And a lovely backdrop it is too...woo hoo woo hoo hoo

Yep, the system Black Warrior Technology put together for E-Cycling Day totally ROCKED! Post up if you want to hear more about it.
