People Like Simple
The main thing about the detailed SBS and EBS breakout graphics that keeps bugging me?
Those Standard CAL and Premium CAL banners at the bottom.
I’m seriously hoping MS isn’t rocking the boat when it comes to the unified CAL system in place now with SBS 2003.
Upsell to Premium would be much easier with SBS 2008, since you don’t even have to touch the first server at all, unlike loading the Premium edition technologies on SBS 2003 now.
And if you’re talking initial install, then the different CAL prices simply becomes one more option that needs explaining.
That’s where the train goes off the rails.
People like simple. When something starts to get complicated, people naturally want to simplify it. And in general, people associate simple with the lowest cost option.
Throwing in a CAL differentiation? That’s a monkey wrench that doesn’t need to be there, and will affect both SBS and EBS 2008 equally.
Here’s hoping MS changes that.
