Essential Business Server Premium Carries Downgrade Rights

If you find yourself trapped in a labyrinth...keep turning left.

OK, this is something that people have been freaking out about, and with good reason.

Essential Business Server 2008 Premium Edition includes an extra server. As in, an extra license of Windows Server 2008 Standard and a license for SQL Server 2008 Standard. Although this extra server can be used to hold a variety of roles, the general idea is that most people would use it as an application server.

“But what about applications that don’t yet support the 2008 version of Windows Server or SQL Server?” was the hue and cry. And MS hadn’t offered a definitive word on how to address that conundrum.

Today, the Essential Server Solutions team announced that downgrade rights will be included with the Premium Edition of Essential Business Server.

So if compatibility is a concern for you, you’ll definitely want to get aboard the EBS train sooner than later.

Through December 31, 2009, Essential Business Server Premium Edition will ship with Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard and SQL Server 2005 Standard media in-box as part of the product, in addition to the regular 2008 versions mentioned above.

After that, this downgrade offer will only be available via Microsoft’s Solutions Pathway, which right now looks to be only slightly less complicated to navigate than the Minotaur’s infamous crib, the Labyrinth at Knossos.

And yes, all this same stuff goes for Small Business Server 2008 Premium Edition.

Windows Essential Servers Come To Action Pack

I want a pair of these. Also, a plasma charged railgun. But I'll settle for a homemade rifle that shoots railroad spikes.

The long anticipated October Action Pack arrived a week or so ago, and I have to say that this is one of the most valuable Action Pack shipments in a long long time.

Both Small Business Server 2008 Standard and Essential Business Server 2008 Standard are included in the October Action Pack. Action Pack also includes a full 10 CALs for each of them.

If you want to get serious and dig into the Windows Essential Server family, this is the closest you will come to getting a nuclear powered set of rocket boots for free.

OK, yeah…Action Pack isn’t totally a freebie. There is a yearly fee of $299. But frankly, that cost is so low compared to what Action Pack contains, you’re basically paying for shipping and media.

And for anyone who wants to start whining about the SBS and EBS versions in Action Pack not being Premium Edition, talk to the hand.

T-Shirts Of The SEC: Vanderbilt Commodores

Big huge shoutout to all the Gold in the house for Vandy’s important win over Kentucky tonight.

Vanderbilt. Getting it done on the field, and off.

That win made Vanderbilt bowl eligible for the first time since 1982, which was during the first of Ronald Reagan’s glorious two terms in office.

Vandy tonight proved you don’t have to be big, dumb and slow to have success in college football.

Maybe somebody could tell that to Arkansas?

T-Shirts Of The SEC: Kentucky Wildcats

Next up, a big round of applause for the coolest cats around!

For those who don't know it, Kentucky has alwasy been primarily known as a basketball school. But in the last 5 years, their football program has made tremendous leaps.

They put up a helluva fight last weekend against Georgia, and nearly pulled off the upset. Besides giving a big fat dose of reality to all the hallucinating folks from Athens, Kentucky proved they deserve a seat at the grownups table when it comes to SEC football.

In the immortal words of The Handsome Panther

Rrrroarrrrrrrr.

Hey Hey Hey. Goodbye.

This is all that's left of Phil Fulmer's future in Knoxville. You can expect his fat ass to be canned any day now.

Wow.

Alabama put sure put the lumber to a hapless Tennessee team today. After a solid enough start, the Volunteers ended up looking about as dangerous as a flag football team from High School Musical 4: Back To Band Camp.

Honestly, today’s game was probably the most complete football Alabama has played all year. From the opening kickoff drive to the final play of the game, when Alabama successfully converted on 4th and 7 play to run out the clock, the Crimson Tide showed what a truly great team they are.

And all without their superstar nose tackle, Terrence “Mount” Cody. Josh Chapman, Alabama’s answer to “The Incredible Hulk” looked just as dominant inside as Cody has. Tennessee’s running game was non-existant today, held to a scant 36 yards.

With this important win, Alabama improves to 8–0, and gets ready for homecoming next week.

After that…the Saban Bowl in Death Valley.
